Computer and cybercrime

Computer and internet is not considered as new scientific terms and appliances now-a-days perhaps these are the most exclusively and extensively used words for a couple of decades. It is a fact that computer and internet have revolutionised the whole world and made communication, business, research and development faster and cheaper. However like other scientific invention and discoveries the much used computer and internet have also some pitfalls. Cyber crime is one of the such unpleasant development through the rapid growth if internet. Cybercrime is a crime committed with the help of computer and telecommunication technology to influence the function of computer and computer system. The widespread uses of computer through internet in every aspect of life, business, development, research and defender have exposed the user to great threads and hazards of its security.

The data in different information system, which form the backbone of the Internet and Networks, is increasingly become vulnerable to sophisticated threats. Cyber crimes are inexpensive, fast and easy to launch attacks the information centre. Latest survey on cyber crimes reveals that around the world about fifty percent organisations have experience attacks on their computer networks. Though cyber crimes are still in its infancy, of late, many cases have come to light. Now let us define difference type of cyber crimes.

• Unauthorised access: Unauthorised access or entry to a particular computer terminal can be achieved by using anothers password. Mainly hacker obtain password by using password hacking programmers.

• System damaging: System can be damaged by an E- mail bombing or through computer viruses like Trojan horse or other ways. The basic objective of using viruses is to delete important files, creating unimportant, unnecessary files etc. in this context let us know something about viruses. Viruses are programme softwares created to damage the system. There are many viruses like file infector, dropper viruses, which bring havoc with the system.

• Cyber- deceit: The companies and individuals provide opportunity of marketing via internet. This is what is called E- commerce. What happens is that a person order something online and later found something else. It is for people with fraudulent intention to make their massages look real credible.

• Cyber Terrorism: Cyber crime does not seem to be a form of white collar crime now, because of the use of internet for planning and executing terrorist attacks. For example terrorist Osama Bin Laden used it to communicate with global network of terrorist.

But it is that true prevention is better than cure. Cyber-crimes are going to be a major challenge for the law enforcing agencies throughout the world crimes are committed across the globe in a boundary less cyberspace. The most astonishing part of internet is that no one is in charge of it. The offenders challenge the very concept of authority, the government and the law enforcing agencies. At last, we do hope that cyber laws enable individuals, organisation, and multinational to carry on their function, their business more effective without hampering the phenomenon growth in the use of computer and internet in the field of information and communication technology.
