The Eyes of Orza part 4

Charlie Green materialized from nothingness. He looked into his own eyes for a moment and stumbled. The ground rushed up to meet him but a quick hand, from the man with Charlie’s face, steadied his footing.

“That’s normal.” The man with Charlie’s face said. “It will pass.”

Charlie dropped into a large overstuffed chair and a glass of whiskey was shoved into his hand.

“Where am I… we? Where are we? My head hurts.”

“Drink the whiskey. It helps.”

“What just--”

“Disorientation is normal. Relax and drink.”

Charlie downed the whiskey in one go. He sputtered and sprayed whiskey.

“Just get some down,” the man said, “the spiral will stop.”

“What the hell happened?”

“Vertigo… that’s what we call it. The spinning, it sucks. You will get used to it. Trust me.”

“What do you want, from me? You have to want something.” Charlie started to get his bearings.

Suddenly the door burst open and armed men rushed into the room. Five men, in military clothing, with helmets that covered the entire head and face. A hose ran from the front of the mask near the mouth to a small canister worn on the back. Charlie stared at the rifles and tried to talk.

“Silence.”

Everyone looked at the woman that stood in the doorway. She looked vaguely familiar to Charlie.

The man with Charlie’s face jumped up and dived at Charlie. The watch on his wrist flashed brilliant sunlight and the two Charlies disappeared again.

Charlie saw the man with his own face spin the dial on the watch and leap towards him. Charlie also saw a thin scar that ran down the face of the woman that stood in the doorway. He also saw the bullet being fired at them from one of the soldiers. “Shay?” Charlie said an instant before he dematerialized into nothingness.
