I love you in past tense
I loved you...
when my tongue rolled around
against the inside of my mouth
to form consonants and vowels,
And whenever oxygen particles made their way
deep into the bottom of my lungs.
I loved you every time my eyelids embraced
and when I would nervously run my fingers through constantly tangled hair
I loved you when I'd stare infinitely into your eyes,
and when the gaze became too intense I had to turn away.
I loved you when I'd talk too much
and times where I was at a complete loss of words.
I loved you every time I laughed and even when I cried
I loved you before I was born and even after I died.
I loved you looking down from the clouds
and silently, invisibly outside our old house.
I loved you every moment,
mundane to magical,
muted and out loud
Whether with or without sense
And now I love you in past tense.
I really like how the script elongates all the I's, makes it look like a musical score. And of course a lovely poem as well.

So beautifully written! And intriguing... it sounds like it's about a past relationship, but also has these out-of-bodyish lines, as if it's about a ghost. And in a way, a poem about past relationships is a poem about ghosts, isn't it?
