I like the idea of changing the PoV to step outside of the story. While I don't personally like second person narrative, it does help to change up the perspective on a story and gain clarity. And of course, even an intensely close 1rst person narrative does not mean you are the story.
I think people confuse "this is my story" with "I am the story". We humans are complex beings and never made up of just one story, one narrative.

Very, very true. No matter how close we are to the narrative, it is not us. I've struggled to remember this myself when writing even in second or third. But, yes, a POV shift can allow us to see the character and experience more clearly as not us. After, we can always move it back to first if that's where it belongs.
