Finding Content Writers: CommitmentsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #writing9 years ago

Once upon a time, I was a content writer, but later became the content manager for an SEO company called GraftedIn.io. I emerged from a cocoon I guess. Since this company started a little over 2 years ago, we get those pesky growing pains here and there. One of those growing pains is scalability, looking for better ways to do more without doubling or tripling the effort and time.

For me, as we had taken on more clients, I was reaching my maximum inefficiency for the content needs we had. I knew it was time...to hire new content writers.

Committed Writers

As a company, we solely exist to add value to our clients real-estate (website), if we didn't, we couldn't stay in business. Scheduled content, different platforms to host the content, and various forms the content has to take on, I needed not only content writers, but I also required commitment.

A common complaint from SEO agencies towards content writers and VA's is that they can be doing great work, and then they pull a Houdini and disappear. If you can't find them, train them.

Finding and Training Commitment

First, when you find someone who is competent in writing, pay them well. Let's say, for example, I receive $40 per article. The content writer I hire will be able to make $30 for the article. However, I do not give them that amount right away, which bleeds into my next tactic.

Second, grow their pay as they grow their commitment. With a $40 article, I would start by paying the writer $20 when they turn in an article that is quality and on time for one month. I would then upgrade it $25 per article for 2 months. When those first 3 months finish, and the writer was on time, and up to snuff, the pay becomes $30.

The Results

"Did it work?"

Yes! I have had the same content writers writing for me since I have hired them.

Have you hired any content writers for your websites? If so, have they stayed with you? How did you keep them?
