bow part 2

in #writing9 years ago

The stone beast threw itself into the room as Noodok regained his feet. He paused momentarily as another tentacle whipped forward, sidestepping at the last moment.
It crashed with a shuddering blow into the ground beside him, and he brought ash down on to it as it withdrew. The grating of steel and granite broke through the air, sparks rising off of Ash as the blade glanced along the stone. The surface had barely been scratched.

Unprepared for the next strike, stone whipped from behind him and pulled his legs out from under him. He rolled, as more strikes followed and the slate where he had lain exploded to fragments. He discarded Ash to the side, realising the nature of the test.

It was only able to be fought with a bow.
The next strike whipped towards him, but gambling on intuition he stood firm and raised his bow. He released an arrow just before it struck, and was blinded momentarily as the whipping tentacle exploded into dust.

The kraken hissed, animalistic anger clear in its eyes, and it threw itself forward again, striking rapidly. Somehow, he managed to slip through the flailing limbs and loose another arrow. This time he had aimed at one of the bulbous stone eyes, but the creature shifted, and it glanced across a tentacle.
Cracks rapidly broke through the stone, and crumbling, it fell away. Noodok took the opportunity to retrieve his blade, and slung his bow across his back as he began to run. It was time to go.

The Kraken again moved forward to attack, but a figure slashed violently at it from behind, a glowing green spear in its grasp. It pierced easily through the stone, and the kraken exploded into fragments.
A dozen eyes dotted the chaotic suit of armour. It stepped through the rubble of the slain statue dropping into a low guard. It's eyes flicked the room for a moment, before settling on the first Archer. A low growl echoed through the chamber, before it moved forward and stabbed viciously at the first Archer's decrepit body. He made no attempt to avoid the blade, instead just watching it casually as it swung towards him. The polearm's blade caught him in the chest, cleaving him easily in two.
A bright gold light flooded the room, and the man exploded.

The room shook and Noodok's ears rung. The suit of armour was blown violently against one of the stone walls, shattering on impact, and Noodok was knocked off his feet from the compressed air in the tunnel.
He tried to rise, but one of his knees buckled, and he fell again, catching himself just before he hit the ground.

He pushed himself to his feet just as a new combatant entered the fray through the shattered archway.
A skeleton holding a necromancers staff. A burst of light shone from the tip as Noodok pushed himself into a run, the tiles behind him whipping violently into the air as a creature made of bones and teeth burst from the ground.

He paused, as an arrow whipped past his face before shattering on the stone walls.
A disembodied set of Elven leathers pushed passed the necromancer, dragging an elegant knife through its neck, just in time to be on the receiving end of a massive blow from the gigantic bone structure the necromancer had summoned.

A second later, the room exploded into chaos. Bodies poured through the passageway, dozens of reanimated corpses in different armours, some with no corpses at all, just the suits of armour.
All of them hacked violently into each other, all attempting to kill that which surrounded it.
A half rotten war-hound tackled Noodok and he fell backwards. It was dragged off him by a suit of gold and maroon armour, that twisted it's neck and slammed is skull roughly into the tiles. The hounds teeth shattered, the cracks in the skull mimicked by the slate tiles that shattered. The suit of armour pulled Noodok back behind him and raised a shield. Two more of the
disembodied suits of dragon corps armour fell in step beside the first.
Noodok rose to his feet again. Even in death, the dragons loyalty had not wavered.

With the line formed, he pulled his bow loose. The archway was too crowded, and he was not going to be able to to escape without some effort... He was fighting his way out.
He roared, a unintelligent noise full of bloodlust and anger, and entered the fray.

Hi!

Why are you downvoting me?

I received 3 downvotes from you two hours ago, and I was wondering why. You can see them by checking my last three blogposts.

Interesting, you are right! Removed now. Glitch? No idea. I didn't intentionally do that, and removed now. Hope it hasn't affected anything, I'm not sure why that happened.

Replaced with upvotes. Not sure why that happened, sorry.

Thanks! I was wondering whether I had said/done something offensive somewhere :)
