RE: The Struggle to be Imperfect

in #writing7 years ago

As friends of mine like to say, "put down the ruler". Ie. Don't measure yourself against others.

But it's difficult. Something we need to remind ourselves of over and over again.

None of us are dealt the same hand in life, or to mix up the analogy a bit - we're all given a different set of ingredients. We can do the best with what we have, to match our own tastes. It makes no sense looking over at someone else's Red Velvet Cake and being pissed that my Pesto Pasta doesn't measure up. They were handed sugar and red dye, and I was given fresh basil and olives. Comparison is the thief of joy - and other cliches.

Maybe I should go get some lunch ;)

I love that phrase, "put down the ruler." And I enjoyed your analogy too -- it's really great way of envisioning the ways in which each person can be different but wonderful (or tasty!) in their own way.
