The book you keep within

in #writing8 years ago (edited)

The past is a closed chapter contained within a book collecting dust on a shelf.
It's put there for a reason, it can be good to reminisce on the past but it's closed for a reason.
You don't keep it on the nightstand by the bed, that's to close and when the nights come creeping upon you.
You might be tempted to relive that closed chapter, remembering the sadness and ache.
Another sleepless night.

This closed chapter within the book can't be destroyed, you can't move and leave it behind on the shelf.
It comes haunting, creeping.
You can't run away from it so don't try.

Of course, this chapter isn't only a tale of ache and terror. It contains some good to.
I separate the two.
I wrote it all down in another book, this book i keep close to the hearth and carry with me wherever i go.
I find it soothing, reminiscing, warming and full of love.
It's what makes me want to go on, to continue in the days, years and decades to come.

As i go new tales are being written, some goes in the dusty old book on the shelf, some in the book close to hearth.
Mistakes may be made and written in but what you do good is what you carry within.

Beautiful, with a very subjective meaning that can resonate with anyone's personal experience. A little bit of melancholy was a nice touch.

Thanks for the comment! :)
First time i've written something like this.
