The importance of being honest

I am privileged to  live in one of the world's most beautiful countries!

I live in South Africa.  Here in the southern part of Africa we have beautiful animals, beautiful open nature, and we have the most beautiful birds all over. In the area where I live, we still have monkeys living in the trees, and we often have to hide our fruit because these monkeys would come inside and steal the fruit.  It is quite amazing to see how these baby monkeys cling to their mother's and how they play with each other.

I see this every day....

We have such a diverse country with so many different races, and all over the world we are called the rainbow nation.  A rainbow is such a beautiful symbol, but a rainbow is absolutely the last thing that I would use to describe this country. Because even if I live in the most beautiful country in the world, I also live in the most corrupt country in the world.  I live in a country where honesty is not the best policy.  Everywhere around us we see corruption, and the whole country is going downhill because of corrupt politicians in charge.

Corruption and dishonesty makes people untrustworthy, and who would ever believe or trust a dishonest person?

How can you believe in someone or something if they show no sign of remorse of their wrongdoings and just continue to make promises that they never intend to keep?

You can say that this is only politics but I would disagree...it is sooooo much more than politics.

I know that every country has its own problems.  I know that some politicians are corrupt.  I know about all these statements, but I also know that if you put someone in charge who is NOT a leader, then the people will not follow.  If there is not someone in charge to take the lead then everyone will start doing their own thing, and that is exactly what is happening in this country today.

If the leader is corrupt, then people WILL follow his example and they will think that it is the norm to do these things. You know the saying...monkey see monkey do?

I am just so sick and tired of everything that is always turned into a racist issue!

Now let me just be clear on one thing.  I am not a racist.  I believe that there is a place for everyone, and everything under the sun.  This situation is NOT about black and white.  This situation is NOT about any color whatsoever at all.

This situation is about what is wrong and what is right!

People in South Africa can not stand together.  I know that everyone all over the world can see the marches to get rid of our President, but it is exactly those same people that is now marching to get rid of him, that voted for him in the first place.

South Africa is a rainbow nation.  Have a look at the colors of the rainbow and see how many colors flow into each other.  People have their own beliefs and cultures and it is one of the most difficult things in the world to bring people from different cultures and back rounds together  to work together as one.

I would even go so far as to say that it is an impossible task.

If you look at nature, you can see that elephants stick to elephants.  Lions, stick to lions and a giraffe sticks to giraffes.  They are all animals, but they don't mix.  They learn how to live together, but they don't mix.

I have seen this in a class situation.  People from similar back rounds, stick together.  This is the law of attraction.

There will never be any unity in South Africa.

People can NOT stand together. We can all learn to live together, and we can all give each other a place under the sun...but that, is as far as it will go.  If everyone believes that they are right, who will be right at the end of the day?

I am not negative.   I don't see that change is possible, but I still hope that there will be some change.  This can only happen if  people start to respect each other and their beliefs. RESPECT IS EARNED.  My heart bleeds for this beautiful country.  My beautiful corrupt country.

Until there are some changes I will stay here in my corner.  At least I still have the monkeys and the birds......   For our President I only have one thing to say and you can read this in the Bible in Psalm 109:8

May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.....

Excellent post gaintbear. I share your sentiments. Enjoy a lovely weekend!

Corruption's seed is Greed @giantbear. I grew up in India. Very beautiful country and very diverse (I think country with most languages spoken), but very very corrupt. Very much same as South Africa. We need to trim greed from the society. This can be done by awareness about the causes of corruption, starting the topics in the elementary to college levels on the five evils of Greed, Lust, Anger, Ego and attachment.

I agree. Education is the most important here but the whole world is turning into a very sad place. Perhaps when we are gone one day the education may have helped... I am scared for my children and all we can do is to keep on praying and educating. Perhaps someday something will change...

Yes giantbear, right now it is kind of pitch dark but don't worry there is always a morning after each dark night. We need to connect ourselves and our children to the creator (In Sikhism we are told to keep the existence of mighty always in our mind, that's a great way to keep connected with the source). Your post really raised a very alarming issue all around the world and we need such discussions in every community and each household so that we can start to work on the solutions.

This is what I love about Steemit. People from all over the world can come together and discuss things from their own points of view. It is amazing....I believe also that we truly meet people here that we really are supposed to be friends with. @mathworksheets thank you for being my friend.

Thanks @giantbear. I really appreciate your remarks but you are the one because of whom I am on steemit today. I could have thought this platform dry and dead too, like others if you hadn't communicated with me and hadn't shared your teaching expertise with me.

This platform is brilliant...people must just realize it...lol!

An excellent look into the soul of South Africa itself. Thank you old friend ;)

I did think of you yesterday when I passed my 14K post :) Remember the 10K post one? It seems so long ago now!!

OMG yes....it is a very faint memory now! Feels like years have passed and so much have happened and changed on this platform in the meantime. Sometimes I wish that it could just be like it was when we all started out. But we have all grown and we are still here!

Life and growth go on ... and our reputations rise! ... ever so slowly!!

Oh this is seriously difficult to get the reputation up from 67 upwards....feels like I'm going nowhere slowly....

Wait till 70, it's like treacle I hear! 80 must be a brick wall and 90 the Grand Canyon ... then finally 100 :))

We have made it this far so these are just obstacles to overcome! I am not scared!

I am ready for that brick wall!

Hello!
Good job!
I signed up, follow each other ^^

Thank you followed you back. Have a good weekend!

Are you on facebook? Please send link!😀

Excellent post@giantbear.

Thank you @reenamathew appreciate your comment.

The whole racism thing is quite an annoying subject for me, because I too feel that everyone has a place where they belong and can be happy. The big problems come when you bring people together with different cultures and backgrounds. People with different values and believes.

I am not a racist, but I don't think everyone should live anywhere they want. Not if they aren't willing to change their values and adjust to their surroundings.

I like how you're pointing towards the animal kingdom. I know we are all humans, but like it or not, we do have different sorts of humans. The whole globalisation and world getting smaller isn't always a good thing...

Thank you @playfulfoodie. I just think we were all created differently for a reason. Otherwise we would all have been the same. I am not racist but I am against doing wrong and sometimes things are just the way it is....we can't do anything about it....things that were not acceptable is now suddenly accepted all over....nothing is "wrong" anymore... you are right....the world getting smaller isn't always a good thing!
