Part 4: “True Horror”

In a cold sweat, Ernest wakes up.

It is mid-afternoon.

He rubs his face.

Just another dream, another nightmare, he must have fallen asleep. Bad idea.

But there is something in his hand--a piece of cloth, some sort of map. And there is blood on the sheets with little worms wiggling around.

Ernest puts the gun to his head. This has to end.

But, Narrow is the hallway, Full of bodies, Shuffling, Black and unfocused. Arms reaching out, wanting. Light radiating through the shadows of the approaching. They come from all directions, cutting off any chance of escape. Draining hope into the fear they feed upon.

Walls lined with blood, Stained and dripping. There is no sound, only the ever encapsulating Void, with no glimpse of color, becoming, and ever consuming.

Unseen,

Unfelt,

And Unheard.

Until the screaming, Of muffled voices,

are cut from the inside, torn apart.

and devoured.

Ernest watches his blood drain across the floor until his body slowly becomes reanimated again. It no longer hurts. His new skin is thick and dark. His fingers are three long sharp claws. His transformation is complete and he is so very, very hungry.

Night arrives and he returns to the village of the Kausians to find his master and to feast.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the Blue Flame. This story will continue in later publications. For the Blue Flame is an introduction to a larger metaphysical world. This might explain why there wasn’t actually a blue flame present in this book. Rest assured fair reader, do not fear, there is a Blue Flame out there. In fact, there are nine. But, we’ll save that for a different story, and for another time. I hope you’ve enjoyed this first installment of Dim Media’s epic tale.
