My perspective on followers.

Good job on introducing the follow button on Steemit, but this is old news. We have a few months already since we have that option. I don't write that much but for sure I follow others and keep up with what's happening on the platform. Besides writing, curating, invest my time in Steemit and help make something huge from the platform, I also like to look at how others evolve, what trends are shaping the content we get.

Getting to the point, here is my perspective on followers and following other people:

• There are two types of users: some of us want followers and others don't. Fair enough.

• Some of us are on Steemit as an extension, a new vibe, a new way of doing what they did even before Steemit (blogs, sites, youtubers, writers). Great! This brings stability and knowledge to others like me (I don't know much about writing) and I follow them.

• Others are here because of the pay. I've seen some people writing 4 articles per day, an make a reasonable amount of money. In some countries that means a part time job maybe. They seem more interested in followers, because this means more reach for their articles. Sometimes the content is not that great (do not generalise) but you can use their accounts to find out more about different stuff.

• We have people not writing but resteeming a lot. Also, some of them are bots. If you find nice accounts with subjects that interest you, you should follow, and make yourself a nice feed for reading everyday.

• Somewhere, out in the Steemit world, you can see people that follow everyone. I'm sorry to say, but this is a lame atempt to get more followers for yourself. Getting to the point where you are followed, is not enough. Original content, personal opinions, interesting subjects - this is what matters. If you spend some time on Steemit you can see what categories ar hot at the moment. This means that most of the active users are interested in that, so maybe you should try to present your ideas on that fact.

• Resteem, tag, subscribe, upvote, contest, rewards - well... lately I'm seeing a big amount of this words and tactics. I'm not saying that every post like this is not ok, but let's keep it out of that category. Usually, asking people to do this result in not doing it. So if you need followers, create something nice and find your audience.
