Humility
A very dear friend of mine lost her dad just yesterday. It’s really unfortunate when we spoke on phone and she couldn’t hold back her tears. My heart goes out to her and her family. In times as this, you wonder why some humans are full of pride.
Humility is the modest estimate of one’s own importance. Why would you need to brag for people to know you are “somebody”. Why can’t you just allow people to find out themselves? Why do you always need people to feel you are more important?
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Wether you believe in God/religion or not, humility is a social virtue. Humility isn’t walking with your shoulders low and your head low. No, that’s not humility. Humility is an appreciation of oneself and not thinking lowly of yourself. Humility is a way of life. You show your humility with your interactions.
It was through pride, that the Lucifer rose against God and became the devil. To be a great leader, you have to be humble. You can’t think lowly of your subordinates and expect them to have your back always. It doesn’t work that way. Even if you are the one always with the best ideas, it’s always best to let them know their opinions matter too.
Don’t practice “false humility” just because you want people to think you are the best. Depreciating your self worth for the sake of receiving adulation and praise is as bad as being proud.
Abjection of oneself which is extreme humility isn’t good either. You only give others the chance to derogate you. Be humble to all you meet, even people you don’t know or owe humility. That is a virtue that can’t be bought.
