Here is my entry for task #2 of the Creative Writing Challenge. The task is as follows:

Creative Writing Challenge
NUMBER TWO

Take a look at your book shelves again. Pick a dictionary. Find a word which meaning you don't know. Don't read the >definition, nor in the book itself and neither anywhere else.

Option 1:

Write an imaginary definition about the word. Then repeat the same exercise with 2 more words.

Option 2:

Write a short essay (min. 300 words) related to an unknown word. Use your creativity muscle and surprise us with >something outstanding. Surprise yourself as well :). Both non-fictional and fictional essays are accepted.

Optional

If you go after Option 2 you are still free to write a definition of the unknown word, just for fun.

The occasional drop of water hit the tunnel floor, setting his nerves on edge. Each drop a cannon shot along his spine, an echo in his head, and a sign that he was nearing the chamber.

Slowly the pinhole of light became brighter and as he neared it became apparent that the light shone through a large key hole. The keyhole for your regular, large, dungeon skeleton key. A keyhole large enough that upon reaching the door, he slid two fingers into it. He had no idea what possessed him to ram his fingers into the keyhole, but once they were nestled soundly inside, his index finger felt a small lever.

Surprise can be worn better by some than others and he felt comfortable that he wore it well. The lever moved easily and the door pulled open with a long high pitch squeal, smoothly but protesting slightly the entire way. The light from the chamber flooded the tunnel and he covered his eyes in semi shocked response.

Gradually the sight returned to his eyes and he was able to lift his hand allowing himself to see the expanse within. The chamber was massive with a high domed ceiling and regularly spaced light beaming through rounded tunnels, presumably from the surface. Nearest to the door and on both sides, the shelves extended the entire length and height of the chamber, carved from the stone of the chamber, long running and perfectly level each, the shelves were filled with neatly lined books.

His hand reached to the nearest book and as he touched it the explosion of old book smell emanated from the binding. The power of the smell knocked him back and as he turned towards the door his eyes spotted the message proving he was in the right chamber,

Incunabulum

He had truly made it to the famed Incunabulum Library and with no one and nothing to keep him from them, his destiny was set, he had acquired the greatest trove of historical works known to man.
