Pion yang Pantang Mundur # Thee pawn that does not retreat

Hari ini saya nongkrong disebuah warung kopi dan menyaksikan dua teman yang lagi bermain catur. Yang namanya main catur tentu pemainnya sangat serius dan kita yang melihat juga ikutan serius. Saat sedang menyaksikan permainan saya sempat membuka handphone dan melihat status seorang teman disebuah media sosial, statusnya hanya sebuah kalimat yang sederhana "aku memang kecil serta melangkah dengan pelan tetapi aku tak pernah mundur" serta dibawah kalimat itu tertera sebuah gambar pion. Kalimat sederhana ini membuat saya berpikir dan beranjak ke bangku lainnya yang agak jauh dari mereka bermain. Dalam hati merenungi dan teringat dengan orang-orang yang dianggap kecil serta diremehkan, mereka yang dianggap kecil dan miskin. Dalam kehidupannya yang serba kekurangan mereka diabaikan bahkan dijadikan tumbal untuk keberhasilan bagi segelintir orang. Untungnya mereka hidup dipedesaan yang memiliki tanah yang masih subur, sehingga mereka dapat bercocok tanam secara tradisional untuk mencukupi kebutuhan pangan keluarganya. Alangkah tersentuhnya hati kita melihat mereka yang dalam hidupnya hanya untuk mencukupi kebutuhan pangan saja.
Today I hang out at a coffee shop and watch two friends who play chess. The name is playing chess, of course the players are very serious and we who are also watching seriously follow. While watching the game I was able to open my cellphone and see a friend's status in a social media, the status was just a simple sentence "I was small and stepped slowly but I never backed away" and under that sentence was a picture of a pawn. This simple sentence makes me think and move to another bench that is a bit far from their playing. Inwardly contemplate and remember the people who are considered small and underestimated, those who are considered small and poor. In their lives, they were neglected and even made a sacrifice for success for a handful of people. Fortunately they live in rural areas that have fertile land, so they can cultivate traditionally to meet their family's food needs. How touched our hearts see those who in their lives are only to fulfill their food needs.
Inilah gambaran kehidupan keluarga di desa-desa yang dikenal dengan rakyat jelata, tidak ubahnya bagai pion dalam permainan catur. Bagi kita yang tahu tentang permainan catur tentu sudah sangat mengerti bagaimana aturan dan langkah dari berbagai buah catur. Sebuah pion atau bidak hanya dapat melangkah satu petak ke depan atau boleh dua petak pada langkah pertama, dalam langkah memakan pion harus melangkah diagonal kekiri atau kekanan serta tidak pernah ada langkah mundur. Namun di dalam permainan catur ada yang namanya langkah promosi, yakni langkah pion yang telah tiba di petak terakhir papan permainan sang kawan. Disaat pion ini telah mendapat promosi kita dapat menukarnya dengan buah catur lainnya yang lebih besar, lebih cepat serta lebih luas jangkauannya.Seperti Mentri, kuda, benteng atau loper. Namun pada umumnya kita lebih memilih Mentri sebagai penukar sang pion.
This is a picture of family life in villages known as commoners, like a pawn in a chess game. For those of us who know about chess, we certainly understand how the rules and steps of various chess pieces are. A pawn or pawns can only move one plot ahead or may be two plots in the first step, in the step of eating a pawn must step diagonally left or right and there is never a step back. But in the chess game there is the name of the promotion step, namely the step of the pawn that has arrived in the final plot of the friend's game board. When this pawn has been promoted we can exchange it for other chess pieces that are bigger, faster and wider in scope. Like a Minister, a horse, a fortress or a passer. But in general we prefer the Minister as the exchange pawn.
Disinilah filosofi dari pion catur, si kecil yang semula dianggap sepele dan sering dikorbankan namun dapat berubah menjadi sesuatu yang penting. Begitu juga dalam realita kehidupan ini, kadangkala anak petani dapat menjadi presuden dan berbagai jabatan peting lainnya di dalam sebuah negara. Mungkin kita pernah membaca sejarahnya, bagaimana Lincoln yang anak tukang kayu bisa menjadi presiden Amerika, Carter yang petani kacang tanah juga bisa menjadi presiden Amerika serta banyak contoh lainnya. Di negara kita ini juga banyak orang-orang yang berasal dari desa dan berangkat dari ketidakmampuan ekonomi yang saat ini telah menduduki jabatan-jabatan penting di pusat pemerintahan maupun di daerah.
This is where the philosophy of the chess pawn is, the little one who was originally considered trivial and often sacrificed but can turn into something important.
