Remain Teachable

One of the most fulfulling experiences i've had in my life is teaching high school teenagers about sound design in theater productions. Going from a creative to a teacher, can feel very humbling. . . Yet as a teacher it is your responsibility to share with them your knowledge and correct them whenever they are acting out of line in class. As you would be surprised to hear the topics these kids bring up, especially nowadays with their over exposure to political propaganda and violent media.

Some kids are tougher to work with than others. They aren't necessarily less capable of learning, it is usually because they like to be rebels in class, or just simply acting too hyper. Of course, their behavior is a reflection of their character, past, or upbringing as we all come from different backgrounds. Most importantly, I remind them that it's alright to make mistakes as it is a normal part of life and the learning process. How could we know everything all at once? This idea is something i try to get them to understand so they can be open minded in a place of learning. I learn from them as much as they learn from me. Now that the tables have turned in my life, i am very grateful for all my teachers. Imagine where we would be without any of them? So for that, i must say Thank You!

On the other hand, the good students really do impress me with how fast they are able to pick up on details, and to see their creative sides develop and shine through their work. This is by far the most satisfying part of teaching, and it is my way of giving back to my community, so that the next generation will become strong knowledgable leaders.
A new talent is born everyday.
