Connection: a Drop in the Ocean post
Christmas Light Connection
After the tree is decorated, one of my favorite things to do is sit in front of the tree in the evening. I prefer to be alone. It helps me to more fully appreciate the quiet and to notice the subtle things that might be missed otherwise.
Though my children prefer to set the lights on the hectic and energetic "Fast Chasing" mode, I will take my time cycling through the controller to find that perfect setting.
Flickering? No.
Slow chasing? Still too chaotic.
Steady? Boring.
Ahhhhh, Slow Burn. There it is. The mesmerizing, hypnotizing allure of the string of lights drawing me under a soothing spell of ebb and flow.
Why was this the first image that came to my mind when @calumam assigned our first theme of Connection for @buddyup's Drop in the Ocean? Take a look at a string of lights, and try to understand what I perceive.
Attached to intertwined strings, these tiny bulbs are completely dependent on one another. If one burns out, the whole string is affected. On the Slow Burn setting, they alternate between burning bright and slowly dimming. Are we left in darkness when the lights begin to fade? No. As one fades, its neighbor takes the new role of shining. Give and take. Sharing the load. Mindful of its responsibility and resting in its role.
There is also nothing quite so sad as viewing a malfunctioning string of lights. From my perspective, I always imagine that there was a mutiny of sorts. Some rogue bulb decided to take shirk his responsibilities and put the whole string at risk. A sad, little intermittent flicker remains the testament to something that was intended to be right, but went so very wrong.
But when it's right, what a scene to behold! Beauty. Peace. Dependence. Community.
Maybe, you don't see all that. Perhaps you just see a jumble of lights doing what they were programmed to do. If so, that's ok. We all have differing perspectives.
If you do see what I see, might I dare to invite such a kindred spirit to join our humble home in @buddyup? You can shine your light next to mine. We can all glow together.
Your writing has such a wonderful effect on me! It takes me to another realm, muffles all external sounds and lets me enjoy your words.
That is a beautiful comment ♥️
Probably the highest compliment that a writer can hear! When we create a new world with words... We SO want inhabitants of that world! Hehhehee If not- what a lonely little planet we've created! 😉
So thank you for coming for a visit with me. 🤗
Speaking of worlds.... Hehhee chapter 7 is scheduled to post today. I hope you enjoy Talia's world today too! ♥️
I see that each light is dependant on the others in the line - that the string is one yet touches many branches. I see that one little light lights a small area alone but with others, burn brighter together.
It's like our individual bodies. If one part gets sick it affects all of the other parts of the body. Every single joint supplies something to the other.
Koinonia.
Can I add your thoughts to my post??? hehehehe just kidding ;)
I was going to also talk about how the whole string needs to be plugged into the source of energy.... but I figured that was a post for another time ;)
Ugh....I didn't even think of the source of power....
hehehehe like i said... another place, another time ;)
This reminded me of the body of Christ...especially when you said "resting in its role".
I think I will check out @buddyup!
That's what @countrygirl felt too :)
Sneak a peek at our comments above hehehehe
Haha I see it! Ya know, I haven't properly met @countrygirl yet...maybe I should introduce myself! 😀
well - i can tell you with 99.999% certainty - that you will love one another hahahah
Huh, how did I miss this last time I popped over to your place? Beautiful analogy, m'darling.
Thank you Miss Deb 😊 ♥️
You have a way with words...
It may or may not surprise you that I love the same light-string setting... ;)
😄😇😄

hehehehe it does NOT surprise me in the least!!!! LOL we are kindred spirits! and I thank you for that lovely comment to me, friend! <3
I knew I could count on you to take something as simple as Christmas lights and turn it into a metaphor that makes me rethink my life ;)
hehehehe it's the simple things, you know??? and it's gotta be the slow burn - no other settings will do for me! lol
I don't know, there's something about that "fast chase" that always appeals to me. Put that baby on with a cup of hot cocoa and a recliner- blisssssssss ;)
Cocoa - and fast chase..... sounds like a sugar high to me ;)
That's the way I roll.
puts shades on slowly
I really liked at the image you gave us! It's true, when they are in a series circuit, when one fails, they all do. Then, when they work together, it is complete harmony. I loved this post :)
I'm so glad! I love when I feel that connection with our group :) we are all a bunch of slow-burning Christmas lights hehehehe thank you Jeremy!
Always so poetic!!
But something about you preferring "Slow burning" kind of creeps me out.
[insert dumb frog face emoji]
