The Story of One Curious Magpie Birdling. Sunday reading for your kids
There was a baby magpie. He had beady eyes and black’n’white wings. His name was Pip-Why cause he had very curious nature.
Every time his mum arrived, he titled his head and started the usual questioning: why is the sky blue and the leaves of the trees green?
He also asked why he can not peek out of the nest. Mum replied: “Your legs are too weak; you could fall out of the nest”.
Everything was good. His parents brought food directly to the nest and cared for their offspring.
Once there was a strong wind. Sisters and brothers said to Pip: “Listen to what mother says, do not look from the nest”.
But curious magpie birdling did not obey and leaned far out of their round nest.
Suddenly a gust of wind caught Pip and his weak legs could not support him.
Boom crash wallop then he hit the ground with a thud.
Oh, he was so frightened. Fearing the most he slowly moved his feathery bids to check for breakages. But luckily everything seemed to be working. His curiosity nature now turned to fear as he observed a new world. But vision was blocked by high grass and the stress of fall made him very sleepy. As time went by, his eyes began to close in the sun.
Parents arrived back to the nest. They asked children where Pip-Why had gone.
Adult magpies chattered, whirred, but little magpie did not hear being asleep. Parents sent out again and again cries of concern trying to attract Pip's attention but to no avail.
Finally, he woke up with a squeak 'pip'.
Parents clapped “Oh, Bird God, little Pip, why were you so careless. Your wings to fly back have not grown up yet, ”- they continued with concern. As there was no other choice they decided take food to his new position.
Everything seemed to be working ok but then a cat appeared. Its face was fat and arrogant.
“Ah, that’s dinner”,- thought the cat,- “how easy, no need to chase, like free food falling from the sky”.
But the parents of the birdling were very aware of the situation. They unleash on him, clapping and striving to bite to protect their Pip. In an effort to save birdling they dive bomb the cat with their sharp beaks.
In all the confusion Pip hopped away into the bushes.
The cat became annoyed from the attack. He did not want to leave, but didn’t want to participate in the battle with two adult magpies neither. Their beaks hurt. The cat although disappointed had to retreat without dinner.
Luckily little magpie was seen by fireman who raised him climbing the ladder back home. The fireman then said:
“Little magpie listen to your mother and father until your wings and tail will have grown”.
