Origins Of Diverse Misconceptions

Good day Steemians, I hope you're having or had a nice day. Today, We will be talking about the ancient features that causes misconceptions base on individual perceptions. In a world where humans will never accept what they don't understand and the society is getting more and more interconnected with technology everyda, we can only help ourselves by terminating this thoughts and embrace these beautiful features that does not in any way define the involved people completely.

Piercings

Piercing is a form of body modification in which an opening is created and do that jewelries may be worn.
Piercing goes way back to the Bible time and earlier. The remains of the oldest preserved dead body that were discovered had earrings. According to research, nose piercing has been documented as far back as 1500 BC. While lip and tongue piercing were historically found to be prominent in the American and African tribal cultures, it wasn't until the 60's that the ear piercing grew rampant in the west. This body modification is controversial and this fact alludes with fact that the reason for and against it varies. Some people adopts piercing for spiritual and religious purpose, some people do it for self-expression and maybe aesthetic value while some does it because it conforms with their culture or even to rebel it. Some forms of these controversies is majorly around youths due to the fact that the practice has become subject to trends and fashion.


Dreads

Dreads are ropelike strands of hair. It can be made and some are biological. Anthropologist discovered some mummies of ancient Egyptians still intact with their dreadlocks. Another famous reference of dreadlocks was in the story of Samson and Delilah in the Christian Bible. The Celts according to the Roman accounts were described to have "hair like snakes". The Germanic tribes, Vikings, Greeks were all professed to have worn locks too. However it's misconception stem from Rastafarianism.

In the 1930 s when Ras Tafari was the crowned emperor of Ethiopia and was forced into exile , guerrilla warriors swore not to cut their hair until the emperor was reinstated . It was seen as a threat to Christianity and came under attack by the authorities . Their dreadlocks were thought to be disgusting and frightening as well as their lifestyle.

Meanwhile, this hairstyle was rejuvenated by the famous music icon, Bob Marley whose action is changing the conversation and thereby promotion international interest in the style.


Beards

Beards is described as a collection of hair that grows on the cheeks and chin of human. It is usually found but not limited to males. Scientists have inferred that the prehistoric men adopts beards as a means of warmth,protection and intimidation. Within the ancient Greeks , beards were seen as a sign of honour and cut as punishment. Until Christianity came around and clergy are mandated by law to shave, Anglo-Saxons keeps and wear their beards. However in this recent times, beards have come to the rescue as a means of separating the boys from the men. There is even a popular saying that “I don’t work out much But my beard lifts skirts” Or that any girl that her boyfriend does not have Beards is dating an emoji. Even over here in Nigeria, there are mixed reactions to sporting a beard as it is affiliated with dirty nature and fanaticism but the current society belief is that the new generation of men sporting beards keep it to further amplify their masculinity.


Tattoos

Tattoo is a type of body modification wher a certain design is made by inserting ink, dyes and pigments, either permanently or temporarily, into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment. Reasons for tattoo differs as some uses it a symbolic in which it has a meaning to the wearer, it can also be purely decorative. Tattoos has been historically regarded as local/uncivilized in the west and over the century, it has been associated with sailors and criminals. As it diminishes in the West, it thrived in Japan. Firstly it was to brand criminals, then it escalated into beauty art form. Today, it is seen as an art and a way of expression for individuals. With the development of technology which aids in creating unique and phenomenal body art, it has reached a ne height. However there are few conceptions that the society always seems to get wrong about people with Tattoos, like girls with Tattoos at the lower back is technically considered to be a slut, Christianity considering it to be immoral or an employer considering Tattoos not to be professional.
