Boise: Growing Faster Than Any Other City In America
Forbes recently released their list of the fastest growing cities in America, and apparently Boise, Idaho, takes first place.
The list is meant to shed some light on areas that are presently seen to be enjoying an upswing, and it seeks to analyze which cities have seen the most growth when it comes to things like employment, population, wages, home values, and more.
Other regions that are also said to be experiencing some healthy growth are places like Seattle, Nashville, Austin, Orlando, Tacoma, Las Vegas, Raleigh, and other areas.
For Boise, analysts say that it's got everything—healthy tech market, low cost of living, and it's a good location. And as far as being a happy state to live in, previous surveys have found that Idaho is among the states that have received the highest well-being scores.
It might be regarded as one of the fastest growing cities, or be a state that's known to be one of the happiest places to live, but not everything is peachy keen in Idaho.
And that's because they've got a serious issue with civil asset forfeiture, the controversial policing for profit scheme, and they've previously received a grade of D- for their forfeiture laws in the state that allow private property to be confiscated from citizens even if they haven't been convicted of a crime.
Idaho is also one state that is pushing for some reform when it comes to scaling back on the practice of civil asset forfeiture.
In February of this year, the Idaho House managed to clear a proposal that was looking to forbid authorities from taking property if they found it to be in close proximity to any illegal substance. Other changes along with the passage of that new proposal, would restrict vehicle confiscations unless certain conditions were met.
However, though it might seem like an effort to reign in the practice, in many ways it's still not enough to ensure that people are protected from having property stolen when they haven't been convicted of any wrongdoing.
So while they might be listed as a happy place to live that's seeing positive job growth and a boost in home value etc, it's still a state that's listed among the worst for putting property owners at risk with its controversial policies such as those relating to civil asset forfeiture.

I'm from Boise, and I can confirm the growth. WE moved 6 years ago and my neighborhood looks nothing like it did. And yet, it's still quite livable; median house price is around 275k, the cost of living is still low enough and traffic isn't too crazy yet (although traffic jams get more frustrating).
Another thing to say against the state: puritanism is still strong. To give just one example: there can't be nudity and alcohol in the same building. So if strippers show enough skin, you can't serve alcohol
This doesn’t make me want to move to Idaho, but it’s interesting to know.
I wonder how accurate these reports anyway. It’s crazy how different states operate so differently from each. It brings into question what makes a place “livable”.

I never knew this was such a big problem, but you’ve enlightened me.
Any form of over policing, over governing, taking away people’s rights and privacy...it’s wrong. I watch a lot of first amendment test videos and it is insane how a guy innocently video taping a police station can all of a sudden be assaulted, questioned, harassed...and let go like nothing happened.
People need to look out for other people...not abuse them.
