Trump-Putin summit in a climate of great concord

US President Donald Trump said his meeting alone with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin was a "very good start". The summit was held in Helsinki.

Everything is fine when it continues well: the summit that brought together the US and Russian presidents seems to have gone as well as one could foresee the fact that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin converged on a number of issues. Among them are two of those who most contribute to this relationship: the question of Russia's interference in the 2016 US presidential elections and relations with the European Union.

The two presidents are convinced that there was no Russian interference in the US elections and that everything is just an internal cabal (in the United States) that is no more than a "witch hunt" that does not exist - wrote Trump on Twitter.

On the part of the Kremlin, the statements remain: there was no interference. Given the most important internal issue - Trump really matters at this point - international issues seem to have not made much difference between the two presidents.

Even because Trump seems to have a broad ability to understand the issue of annexation of Crimea - even though he may have many doubts about Ukraine. But it seems to have really been the European Union to play the 'party hype' - as analysts had hoped would happen.

According to news agencies, the private meeting between the two leaders was scheduled to last 90 minutes but ended up lasting more than two hours, which somehow proves the mood was one of understanding. It was only after this meeting alone (with the interpreters) that the two heads of state set out for a working lunch, with the United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and the United States Ambassador in Russia Jon Huntsman.

This is the fourth time that US and Russian presidents have met in the Finnish capital after Gerald Ford and Léonid Brejnev (1975), George Bush and Mikhail Gorbatchev (1990) and Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin (1997).
