Hook your readers

in #writing7 years ago

Before before we start I am not an expert! but I did want to jot down a few thoughts and obsevations on building your Steemit presence.

Some of you maybe aware that I co-host a podcast, it's not dead it's sleeping, one of the lessons I learned was that you need a 'hook(s)' something that will make your listeners come back for more or at the very least give them a sense of familiarity as to what to expect. For example we have a section titled "It began in South Africa." listeners know to expect some ripping apart of Canonical-née-Ubuntu over some spurious announcement they've made. Even the *Feedback* section that ALL podcasts have is another familiarity that your followers will come to expect.

With that in mind some authors on Steemit are already following that rule of thumb and are starting to carve out their own little niche with regular posts under a defined title. Here are just a few examples:

@screenname The Daily Tribune:
@steevc Follow Friday:
@cryptowallet Daily Memes:
@timsaid Myth or Fact?
@knozaki2015 I travel the world
@dickturpin Seriously? -

This not only gives your followers something to look forward to on a regular basis but also enables them to say to their followers "Have you been reading that @dickturpin and his Seriously? - posts?"

Hopefully at some stage Steemit will allow Categories that will make searching for authors regular slots more easy to find, maybe even a 'Bookmark' feature?
