NIGERIAN WEDDING BELLS
Wedding bells ring everywhere in the urban and rural areas of Nigeria. Wedding had become the concern of those who are due for marriage; even their parents, in spite of attempts by some to sully the age long institution or shy away from it. Hardly does a day go by without plans - covert or overt - taking place between a man and a woman that was to lead to the nuptial knot some day.
Every now and then, people send out one invitation after another to the gusts of those about to get married. I got one a day ago.
With a married status men and women are highly esteemed because people see them as those who are responsible enough in the society all things being equal. Without it many will ill at ease one way or the other while some may become suitors of the underage, waiting for them to grow up.
Cathedrals, mosques, halls, churches, clubs, plazas and related places had hosted wedding ceremonies in their thousands in the various towns and the list is infinite.
Marriage is not unique to Nigerians, but one event that apply to all regardless of status or nationality, and one area where all humanity is on an equal footing before nature.
Marriage is like the age question which snare no one, and defies racial boundaries, standing as another bridge between the black man and the white man.
Marriage is one thing that has destroyed several myth in the lives of many. Through it the handicapped and the able-bodied had joined the club of the married with eyes wide open, yet closed to any blemishes.
Love is blind they say and indeed it is!
