How to Write a Successful Blog - Part 1
Since June, when I joined Steemit, I've kept notes about blogging. I just opened a file on Word and entered anything I found helpful or that I wanted to remember. Now, it's become redundant as I know exactly what it says without looking. This is my 1930th post so that's not surprising.
I thought I'd share some of the notes in case they help newbies. So here goes:
Do You Know What You Are Talking About?
It's no good purporting to be an expert then writing a load of rubbish. This seems obvious but you'd be surprised how many articles are winged just to increase the writer's rep score.
If you have a skill in the topic you are writing about, tell the reader. I did a series about creative writing and included the info that I am a qualified teacher on the subject. Of course, then you must come up with the goods.
How Long Should Your Article Be?
I've heard the high rep bloggers on Steemit often say that articles should be high quality and of a good length. I recently saw one such post criticizing articles that are under 100 words long. However, while agreeing about the quality, I've noticed that longer posts don't get so many readings.
I think this is partly because so many users access the web with their phones. Phone users don't have a vast screen area. They want fast access to the key points of an article without having to scroll too much. They like headings, bullet points and links to make the article easy reading.
Maybe the blog isn't the right forum for the long, verbose article. Feel free to disagree if you think I'm wrong!
So, there are a couple of suggestions from my notes. Following my own advice, I'll stop here. I hope they are helpful to Newbies.
Thank you for reading!
i have basically the same mind set when it comes to business ; only i also live by 3 rules
Hehehe .
Ive learned that if a post is too long, people wont read the full article, or if they hold any kind of picture graphs or information too complex they will only be missed .
Keeping things short at first to build your audience ; then go into greater detail ; and direct the readers to that post .
Very good read ; keep up the good work ^.~
Thank you for your comment and vote. People are too impatient for detail, I think, hehe.
