Were the dice real? Did they truly affect one’s attributes?

Awesome piece you dropped here @rhethypo. But I had one question on my mind as I read, what was the purpose of rolling the dice? Which then leads to your question in the story "Are they real? "

The purpose of rolling the dice was to change your stats in real life, just like rolling starting stats for a character in a rpg of any kind, really. At the start of the story, the protagonist firmly believes they actually work as described, in that if you roll a higher number then that particular attribute will increase to match it in scale. However, after he rolls a ten for intelligence, he questions whether the dice work exactly as he previously believed, or if it's all just a con to manipulate people.

The question of whether or not the dice really do anything is never answered, and that was intentional. All that was confirmed was that society as a whole accepts them as a kind of resume, so high stats means things like getting a higher paying job or paying less for health insurance. Unless I decide to write a longer and more in depth version of this story where I answer more questions, it's up to the reader what to believe about the dice.

Why, thank you! :)
