7 Science Fiction Prompts

in #writing6 years ago (edited)

I’ve been experiencing a bit of writer’s block lately. I’ve been meaning to do some more creative writing, especially on Steemit, but I’ve been stumped, to say the least. I get a paragraph or two down, and then my inspiration just.. fizzles out. So I decided that I would instead like to see what my fellow steemians can accomplish, with just a prompt. This isn’t a contest or anything, just something to get your brain going since mine has been so stubborn.

The genre of this list is Science Fiction. I may make more lists like this in the future.

Unexpected Arrival: We have discovered a new alien species (or they have discovered us). They are not carbon-based, like animals and plants on Earth, but are a completely new form of life. What do they look like? How does their technology function? What is their society like? Are they friendly, or not?
Spark of Life: In a future where our biosphere has been all but destroyed, what remains of humanity has been modified with devices that allow them to survive off of an electrical charge instead of food. One day, a character discovers a plot by the ruling class to reroute power from the poorer districts of their city to their own. What do they do?
Red World: Just as a mission to colonize Mars lands and the five hundred colonists begin to leave the ship, a major volcanic eruption occurs on Earth and all contact with our home world ceases. How does the new martian society develop?
The Almighty Gallon: A global economic depression causes all major currencies to plummet in value. To keep trade and economic activity alive, clean water becomes the newest medium of exchange. What does a small town do when their bank’s supply has been poisoned?
The Next Us: After humanity disappears off the face of the Earth, a species must rise up and take place as the dominant race of our planet. Which is it? Is there any conflict between species?
Plugged In: A new device is released that allows people to directly upload information into their minds with flash drives. While it becomes immensely popular, there are rare cases of people becoming violent upon using a drive. Is it the technology itself, or is someone intentionally corrupting drives?
The Truth Hurts: An experiment goes awry, and a radio wave travels around the Earth. The wave forces everyone affected by it to tell the truth for 24 hours. What secrets get revealed about the world?

If you use any of these prompts, feel free to share! Good luck!
