Here's the outline of the chinese idiom:

Once upon a time, there was a man named Zhang San. After years of hard work, he saved 300 taels of silver in the end.

He was very happy but became worried at the same time. Why? Because he was afraid that the silver might be stolen.

“Wrap the silver and hide it somewhere, so nobody could find it,” Zhang San said to himself.

Zhang San didn't know where to store the silver in safety. He thought it over and over and finally hit on a good idea. Without delay, walking out of his house, Zhang San dug a pit in his courtyard, quietly buried the silver in it and covered with soil.

However he didn't feel relieved after doing this, because he was afraid that someone might be there to dig them out. He wrote down “此地无银三百两”(meaning no 300 taels of silver is buried here) on a piece of board with a brush, and then place the board in the earth where the silver had been buried. Then he went away, feeling quite relaxed.

Who would have thought that all his doings were noticed by his neighbor Ah Er, an ignorant fellow, who was idling about with nothing to do. When Zhang San went back to his house, under the cover of the darkness at night, Ah Er sneaked into the courtyard, dug out the silver and stole it away.

Out of the fear that Zhang San might find him out, he put up a piece of board where the silver had been buried with the seven big characters on it: "邻居阿二不曾偷" (meaning not stolen by your next-door neighbor Ah Er).
"In this way Zhang San would not think I had stolen his silver," he said with a self-satisfied smile.

The next morning Zhang San found his silver missing. He was so anxious, but he saw light suddenly when he read the notice on the board.

No 300 taels of silver buried here―a guilty person gives himself away by conspicuously protesting his innocence.
