Original content is the best but if you are sharing other people's work, please do these 5 things.

in #writing8 years ago

I love original content. I believe that the original, creative and prolific content generators are the ones that will drive this social network to some unimaginable highs. This is what we all want in the end, a community that thrives on quality, quantity and offers original work to its users and at the same time paying for what we are producing.

Original content is great, but sharing is fine too. It happens in all social networks and is extremely valuable for both, the content creator and the person sharing the content. Let's do it, share good work, but let's keep in mind these 5 easy things we can do to help the original creators.

1. Give proper credits.

This is the minimum that you should be doing. It is fair and doesn't take much of your time. Share their names and put a link somewhere to their websites, Youtube channels, Steemit profiles, etc.

2. Contact the copyright owner and ask for permission.

Most creatives will feel flattered if you contact them and will give you full permission to share their work. You will also have a chance to connect with awesome people that can become eventual friends and help you on your journey.

3. Write about the work you are sharing.

Don't be lazy and spend some time writing about what you are sharing, why are you sharing it and give readers an introduction to the work. Make it clear that you are sharing something that you actually like and that it is not your original content.

4. If the person is also on Steemit, what about sharing a bit of your rewards?

I believe this would be a good move and buy you some respect on the community. Maybe be difficult to do.

5. Be passionate about what you are sharing.

Share stuff that you actually read, listen or watch, not just random things that you believe will get some votes. This will make your blog more consistent and create a pattern that people can identify in the future.

...

That's it. Hope it helps.

Remember that you don't need to do all these things every time, but try to do at least #1. This will help the whole community to thrive on a better environment.

This is a great post with very useful advice. I'll be thrilled if everyone follows your guidelines!

Thanks. We are the ones that will define how this community will be, so hopefully we can create an environment where good content is the norm.

Also, I'm not sure if the dated paper with Steem written on it works. Looks silly and doesn't prove anything.
