Review of “The Sympathizer” by Vietnam Thanh Nguyen

in #writing6 years ago

"The Sympathizer" is unfulfilling. The insights are ironies.

Glib ironies, and that's too bad. Which extend into the sex trade and its economy. An interested reader would like to know how much the meal costs, it seems excessive. Out of character.

This Pulitzer Prize winning novel has all the spinning of moral authority and none of the swirl of sex.

Perhaps that is because no one can understand the topic the way an American-Vietnamese writer understands. It is about spying.

Frankly my law school application essay is more interesting, but that's about me.

To be honest I'm only on page five. It makes me want to write a 600 page meditation titled, "The Lazy American".

It is too long.

Asians have a nacke for cliche. Stereotypical.

Westside. Two stars.
