The Sineater {Part 4}
Hi Steemers! Hope you haven't missed me much...The story goes on.Keep upvoting for more!
Chenesai looked at him and could sense the wariness and the battle within him. She could only imagine what he had been through all his life. She was a very sensitive soul, no emotion escaped her notice.
" He must be very strong for him to have lived so long and still carry the curse that had killed so many others", she thought to herself.
She shook herself from her thoughts as they neared the healer's compound. It was a cluster of circular thatched roof huts made of river clay, grass and wood. He would have thought they would have gone modern by now. However he could not fault them for sticking to healer traditions; to make use of natural "earth" materials in honor of their basic philosophy... Always draw on nature for all your needs, never take more or less, just what you need.
Greg looked at the compound. He did not remember it but could sense the powers that the healer carried. It was all over ,in the air.. An electric current. If he listened carefully he could hear the hum, the energy. Surely this healer was powerful. To the ordinary man's eye,the healer’s abilities could also not be doubted.For there were a myriad of plants and herbs growing in the yard and Greg could name some.. Some he knew to be exotic, foreign to african landscape and yet still they bloomed.
The sun seemed to shine brighter in the compound. The air smelt a little cleaner. The trees grew tall but were not in competition with each other for space, the grass was greener and even if you didn't know the herbs that grew there you could smell them clearly.
Chenesai led the way into the main hut and lying inside was a frail old man. He was sick indeed for Greg could visibly see the purple veins under his skin. His frailty was quite disconcerting and debility prevented him from getting up.
“Baba… I am here. I have done what you have asked. I found him.”
The old healer made the effort to look at Greg,he stared as if he were looking through him into his inner being.
“He is the one…”, he whispered and then he focused his attention on to Greg.
“You know what I need from you. My time has come and I need you to cleanse me for where i am going.”
Greg looked away. He knew what the man expected of him. He could feel the power of the curse stirring,egging him on.
‘I have not cleansed anyone in ages. The curse is more or less dormant. I can’t risk it!”
He would not do it! This healer would truly meet his end soon. if he was so powerful why couldn’t he just heal himself? Why involve him? There was however the part where the healer knew about him, his curse, his name… He decided then that he would stick around for a while, just until he could figure this out. he had to know what the old man knew.
“Chenesai….Leave us,” He waved her off.
Chenesai bowed and went out of the hut. Greg could see why this girl had been able to handle his moods. She could garner respect for anyone in an instant, no matter how rude or inconsiderate you were being. Clearly,she had a lot of love and respect for this old frail being.
“Tsvakai… I know you have many questions.. And I will address them, but i don’t have much time. “ he went into a spasm of coughing. It sounded as if all of his lungs might just pop out of his mouth.He took in a few deep breaths and then sat up.
