riiiiiight? holy shit, what would it take to make this idea mainstream?

i mean, imagine how much we could do in this country if we sold even a fraction of the materiel our cops already have and put that towards, say, infrastructure or whatever public good you prefer?

and sure, the world doesn't need any more american weapons than it already has (just look how well MENA's doing with all the weapons we've sold em!), but what the fuck else are we going to do with an economy so great at pumping out weapons and no need for them!

too bad we haven't yet come up with a modern swords-to-plowshares equivalent. maybe if we could quantify the opportunity cost of this terrible policy, we could get people to see what else is possible
