Dyslexia DOES NOT mean ignorant and you need to know that fact! Dyslexia impacts individuals from all backgrounds and intellectual levels. Einstein was dyslexic and his IQ was 160! There are many celebrities who deal with it, as well.
Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability that may include poor word reading, word decoding, oral reading fluency and spelling. It can run in families and parents with dyslexia may often times have children with the same condition.
Again, I want to emphasis that people with dyslexia are not unintelligent and they certainly don't suffer from retardation. 50 percent of NASA employees are dyslexic and they certainly don't lack for smarts!

We need to raise awareness of this disorder because staying in the shadows and remaining embarrassed will only perpetuate the problem. 1 out of 5 children in the United States has dyslexia, but with proper guidance and teaching, they can often times overcome the challenging setbacks of this disability. You most likely have a friend, family member or loved-one who has dyslexia and that is the reason why it's important to reach out and be supportive in every possible way.

I am not dyslexic but I can only imagine how difficult it must be, especially for children who are trying to figure out what's wrong.

Dyslexia might be problematic but it doesn't have to ruin your life if you can take charge of the situation. I wish you the very best!
