Freezing rain turns to snow as we surge upstream through a wash swollen with springmelt and dead timber. We’re 27 hours into this but time is running out and the cold is set in bone. One numb step at a time, we find our route through the fog and finally glimpse the approach to that last peak. The end is nigh. One step at a time. One step at a time.
