5 books I read in 2017 - #2: The Fall - Albert Camus (Consciousness, morality, paradox)
"The Fall" : Albert Camus
The gist in four brackets:
{embracing the paradox}{redefining the morality}
{talking honestly to thyself}{impossibility to judge}
This book is definitely a must-read and was that much deep and unique, that made me to read the whole book in one day, sitting alone in a park with a great focus, non-stop.
I knew Albert Camus more as a philosopher than a novel writer, and this book was a strong proof for this pre-judgement.
He, Camus, writes in another book that :
"To live is, in itself, a value judgement. To breathe is to judge."
and in this one the narratee is a judge either. this makes me certain that when I'm reading a novel of Camus, I have to expect a challenging interpretation of something on which we don't usually focus and we willingly ignore and deceive ourself to deny occurance of something through which we're not capable of understanding our capacity of self sabotage, morality, and prioritizing our values...
This is a book in which we contemplate our inner self to:
- Question and search for the very gap between the illusion of morality and the morality itself
- define the meaning and reality of a virtuous life and attitude and the origin of a falsehood we couldn't clarify before
- Crushing the idea of integrity, demonstrating the values in which we tend to believe cuz they're easier to learn and teach but hard to maintain, breaking the frame of which results to see existance of goodness can be felt meaningful by having evil, in dictionary of our life
using only monologues to speak to the audiance, is a deeper way of keeping the reader more engaged and focus on the true meaning...
After all, It's a book of focus, a book that forces us to leave out all the excessive comity we have facing our own beliefs...It's a book for those who have kept many opposing believes, simultaniously in their minds, and act and feel moral, although they live like unlimitted sources of paradox in their mind.
I suggest you to read it with no gap in between...
and as Always, it will be appreciated if you write down your oppinions, if you have read the book already..
