Preface

In an April 2016 report, the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics stated there were 37,890,000 men not looking for work, up from 37,473,000 reported a year earlier. The increase of men no longer looking for work from April, 2015 to April, 2016 amounted to 417,000.

The unemployment number for men in April, 2015 was 4,580,000 and 4,222,000 in April, 2016. The decrease in the employment rate for that same period went from 5.5% to 5.0%, a reduction of 11%.

In a one year period during 2016 the employment rate for men went up 11% while the percent of males not looking for work also went up by 1.1%

It was only when these trends invaded the upper levels of skilled, managerial and high tech work forces that in the words of Charles Murray’s book “America started coming apart.”

American Shutdown presents a glimpse of men in decline. When men no longer see the value they contribute to a society many may take to wilding, each in their own particular way.

It is a tragic story unfit for modern political correctness that only makes the front page when victim heroes remind the reader: “There but for the grace of God go I.” - John Bradford - 16th Century
