The banks get it wrong and customers feel angst!

in #writing5 years ago (edited)

The banks are very good at boasting about services, all people are valued and looked after. *"Don't worry, we have lifted our game, we highly value the customers" *are the repeated slogans for existing customers and prospective new customers. The PR departments are relentless in trying to build up the positive caring image.

The question to ask is whether we believe the bank or not? The general answer is a resounding no from the general population of clients. It is well know that banks are simply money makers aiming at making immense yearly profits to line the pockets of CEOs and top senior staffers. And usually it is at the expense of a little person whose property has been seized due to big debts. There is always a good reason for the debt like a lost job or a farm experiencing significant drought. So many sad stories abound unfortunately.

Does this sound cynical? It should, there are lots of reasons for many people to feel negative with banks.

Unless we store our money under the beds, in garden pots, in piggy banks or in home safes we have no option but to do business with the banks. What makes banking a little more complicated is the automotive approach the banks use with customers in these modern days. We are encouraged to use net banking and ATMs rather than go to the banks.

This is easy enough if one is computer savvy but not so much for any customer who is not or an older person who wants a passbook to withdraw cash with a bank teller.

But banks are also good alt causing little bits of angst. It leaves one to question how can the bank get it wrong.

For example, my intuition was in full swing yesterday when it was telling me to check the 'travel credit cards' expiry dates
last yesterday afternoon. Oops they had expired.

So into the bank we went this morning as our departure date is looming. But, alas nothing could be done today as there was an Australian outage happening and no electronic transactions could be carried out. Actually the bank was closed down, the workers could do nothing.

"Didn't the bank send a letter informing you of the credit cards expiring last year?" asked the helpful lady bank worker.

"No, I did not receive such a letter, I would have really appreciated the notification but no I was not informed."

Yes, I am feeling a tad exasperated with the bank but am grateful that my intuition was working. It seems like a bank visit is on the agenda tomorrow morning! Oh hum!

Cheers and Blessings

Howdy angiemitchell! Banks are a necessary evil for most of us. Our credit card companies just automatically send us new ones when the old ones are about to expire.
