Good first impressions

This imposing driveway doesn't lead to my home, although it would be a nice place to live, I'm sure. This driveway leads to the Royal Museum situated in the old National Palace, Istana Negara, in the City of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the former residence of the King and Queen of Malaysia.

In 2011 the palace was replaced by the new Istana Negara in Segambut and in 2013 was converted to the Royal Museum. Looking at this entrance, the opulence and grandeur, makes me wonder what sort of impression the former occupants of this palace were hoping to make; I suspect it was designed to leave a good first impression.

As individuals we have the opportunity to present ourselves in many different ways when we first meet other's and I guess most of us will make, at least a little effort, to leave people with a good first impression.

I've always tried to leave a good impression on others when I first meet them. I smile genuinely, am polite and courteous and of course always endeavour to seem interested in what they are saying. It has always been a habit of mine to ask questions and prompt more conversation rather than take over conversations; Essentially I make it all about them rather than myself. I answer their questions of course but always reflect it back opening the opportunity to learn more about them and to leave them with the impression that I am interesting, but also interested (in them) which I think is the important part.

Whether I will ever see that person again or not I try to leave people feeling that their interaction with me was valuable and pleasant. I don't need to dazzle or impress them with amazing tales, expensive clothing or items, just a little genuine interest in the other person is often all it takes to build a good first impression. Blogging here is a little different though...We need to capture people's attention and get them coming back.

Being reasonably new to steem and blogging I feel this strategy is important when presenting myself to the rest of the users here. I try to put effort and care into my writing, layout, punctuation and spelling with a view to demonstrating that my blog holds some value or interest to others. Essentially it's leaving a good impression to those who come across my blog with the hope they come back.

The way I see it we only have one opportunity to capture interest with each user coming across our blog's and once they view and discard us as not interesting they will probably never come back. In a community like this having them come back is what we really want to do. Every time I hit the publish button I hope my blog reaches new people and provides existing followers with something interesting, informative or entertaining, and that they feel happy to come back again.

I can't promise an amazing blog each time I publish something, however I feel comfortable that my blogs present the best they can under the circumstances and with the skills I have at my disposal. I hope those reading my work feel the same.
