Please don't use pirate book sites, here's a better way.

Last night I came across a post on here about a pirate book site, the poster of the blog was encouraging people to go get 1000's of free e-books.

As a writer I know books are not free, they take months or even years to write, rewrite and scream at as you try to get the story down. When you are not writing the story is bubbling away in your head.

Finally when the story is finished the costs begin, you need an editor/ proofreader because the story needs to be checked over by a fresh set of eyes that doesn't know the story like you. You also need a cover artist who will create the visual first impact for your book. These things cost money.

Now only a lucky few writers live inside the publishing bubble of the paid advances of major publishing houses, those who actually make a living from their stories. Most writers don't make a living from their stories or even much of a profit. To these many writers each sale or review is a precious thing, not for the money but for the time and effort we put into creating our story.

These pirate sites steal all that away and make money from our effort. (You don't think they're doing it without making money do you?)

If you want to read free books then here's 3 better ways to do it.
Go to the library. That way you support the writer and the vital social service of public libraries.

Search out on steemit for writers who are putting their work up free to read, upvote them and help them make a bit of steem.

Go to legit online bookstores and search for free books to download.

Thanks for reading.

Pirated book sites are the warts on the anus of humanity.

I knows people who do it and it really aggravates me. Buying the book is the best way, particularly now that ebooks can often be found at a reasonable price. Except on the odd annoying occasion

People have to (re)learn to pay for art. The internet was such a revolution and we all went in without much thought for the commercial consequenses, but today I know many artists, especially musicians, producers and composers, that hate the internet and see no future at all dealing with it.

But I guess that we just have to keep working on the tools. I buy music, especially from Bandcamp who have reasonable conditions. The Alexandria project that I have been writing about is working on a solution too. Solidarity among artists are sadly lacking, and probably always will be, so let's make the tools...

I think steemit is one of those tools, I've made more here since September than years on Amazon.

Yes, me too. I am embarking on the web-comic voyage only because I can see a small possibility that a combination of this (Steemit) and that (Patreon) and thus (bitcoins-donations) just might work... and also because it is fun, and I can afford it right now.
