Second Creative Writing Challenge - Task #6 - An Unfortunate Turn of Events

Hi everyone! This is my entry for task #6 of @steemfluencer's second creative writing challenge. We were asked to continue writing the story below, focusing on what happened with Mr.Adam and his wife that ended with Roger in the hospital.

03.08 p.m. August 15, 2015** Edward Hospital, Naperville IL**
Roger is speaking with his butler Charles.
Roger: Excuse me Charles, could you briefly explain me why I'm now laying on a bed in this hospital?
Charles: Yes, sir. I would love to. However, I couldn't really promise that it will be a brief story.
Roger: Okey then. We have enough time. Please, go ahead,.
Charles: Good sir. You know our neighbors, correct?
Roger: Mr Adam and his wife. The strange ones?
Charles:Exactly sir. You know that sometimes they travel for longer and when they arrive back hope they have quarrels.
Well, last time the quarrel lasted longer than usual. That's why...

...their son came to the house asking if we could help them. We were weary to go, the kid had a weird expression on his face; a mixture of feigned fear and a poorly concealed amusement. We declined and told him to call the police but he was very insistent. At last we gave in and called the police before going to their house.

The couple's fight had escalated and became very heated. I advised you against walking towards them but you went anyway, sir. When I looked around the kitchen, where they were arguing, there was a red liquid on the table dripping onto the floor; Mr. Adam was holding closely his side while leaning on the table. Immediately I grew alarmed and tried to warn you, I really did sir., but it was too late. We hadn't seen that Elena, Mr. Adam's wife, had a pan clutched in her hand. One moment she had it and the next it went flying through the air towards her husband. I thought it would surely hit him but he dodge at the last second, like he was expecting it. Sadly, you were right behind him and it hit you on the head. You were flailing for a few seconds before you stepped on the mysterious red liquid and fell to the floor.

It was awful sir, I didn't know what to do. I'm sorry I couldn't catch you but I was shell shocked about the turn of events; it all seemed like in the movies when the protagonist falls in slow motion. When your head hit the floor you lost consciousness and I was pretty scared.

Elena saw all of it an went running towards you. She had a crazed face and I noticed she was gripping a knife in her other hand, dripping the blood like substance. That's when I woke up and ran towards her, I was attempting a tackle; instead I tripped over you and fell and hit my nose. That's when the smell reached me, pomegranate; I could identify it anywhere because that's my favorite fruit.

Shortly after, the police arrived and all the situation was cleared; turns out that they are theater directors and writers. They travel so much searching for inspiration and for casting their leads. The quarrels we always hear are staged in order for them to gain inspiration for their current play. They have thrown things at each other but since it's a routine they know to dodge them. The kid knew this all along, he was bored and wanted to give us a scare but it backfired.

He says he's really sorry and his parents are too; a quirky and weird family at that. As compensation they'll pay your medical bills and whatever it is needed for your recovery sir. I'm pretty sure they'll create a play out of this unfortunate turn of events.

Roger: I think you're missing a fundamental piece of information Charles.

Charles: Really? What is it?

Roger: What is wrong with me?

Charles: OH! Yeah, I forgot to tell you. Well you have a mild contusion and a couple of broken ribs sir. Nothing too grave, considering.

Roger: Charles?

Charles: Yes sir?

Roger: Shut up.
