(confessional addendum)
Fine words, but if you only knew the anguish in my heart,
From which those words spring, you would call me a
Hypocrite.
In truth, in a normal year this season, with the shorter days, dark, dismal
Skies bring on a deep and abiding melancholy in me.
I am vulnerable, even in the better years, when this season arrives.
This past summer made 10 yrs of sobriety for me, but I broke down and
Bought, and consumed three fifth bottles of Vodka in the middle week
Of December.
Unlike times past, I didn't go "whole hog" and drink the entire bottle
at once, but for any recovering alcoholic, this is a death knell.
Now that I am in pain every day, and now that I've 'let the genie back
out,' I will have to be super extra diligent and avoid the temptation when
It raises its ugly head again, as it did yesterday, as it does right now.
If I wanted, I could walk across the street and buy wine or beer and
Bring them back up here, OR, I could go to the restaurant/bar and
Pay through the nose for shot after shot.
