THE WORST BATTLE IS BETWEEN WHAT YOU KNOW AND WHAT YOU FEEL
Every day, we are deluged with decisions, big, small, expensive, needs, e.t.c we all experience it. Even though the conditions under which executives operate may sometimes limit or even prevent the use of logical fact based intelligent analysis in decision
How to make a right decision? How to make them quick? How to get them right? Is there any alternate way? Thus...
There are lots of thesis already available advocating both the sides. "What you know" comes with wisdom, more and more experience, as we learn every day and "What you feel" represent your intuitions and gut feeling under a specific condition and set of challenges.
The big question is what should be the way forward because both have their merits and demerits.
Decision making based on knowledge, facts, experience, historical data, are reckoned to be more methodological, reliable and correct. The disadvantages associated with such processes are they are quite analytical, takes time, depends on the reference data, assumes present scenario to be same as past, which is a wrong assumption.
On the other hand, decision-making based on feeling, are thought to be more prompt, do not depend on historical data (as the accuracy of data needs to be checked). Problem associated with such ways of making decision are that it widely depends on the individual's ability to understand the dynamics and conditions under which they are making the decisions.
I feel, it should be the balance of both. We may like to use our wisdom of knowledge in decision making coupled with the some extend of gut feeling. Experience, shall give you fundamental thumb rules and the intuitions shall make it quicker.
I have seen and experienced in most cases - your gut feeling matches with what your knowledge, facts, reflects. This depends individuals-to-individuals, your own unique sets of challenges and conditions under which you are making your decisions.
