Heroes in Uniform
Who doesn't love heroes?
This idea of the hero goes as far back recorded history itself. Somebody to save the day, whether the ancient Greek mythological characters, to modern comic book heroes, to the everyday person who does some heroic act.
There is something about a hero that is revered to the point of near deification.
Now take as long as you like to soak up that lovely piece of propaganda above.
The problem is, most of the "heroes" I was told about, and am continually told about are not heroes. They at best are ordinary people like you and me and, at worst gang members who will literally kill you for a paycheck because somebody who was a perceived authority lied them into it.
•Taking a job that is funded through extortive practices (taxation) does not make you a hero.
•Blindly following orders "cause I didn't make the laws I just enforce them." Doesn't make you a hero.
•Putting on a magic uniform doesn't make you a hero (That only works in comic books and fantasy novels)
•Flying half way across the world to shoot or bomb people you've never met and know next to nothing about doesn't make you a hero no matter how good your intentions, Intent doesn't change the fact of who one actually serves, or the consequences of ones actions.
Now some jobs are more honorable than others no doubt.
I'm curious though
What makes a job heroic?
Danger?
•linemen
•Loggers,
Garbage collectors
•Farmers
•Truck drivers
•Roofers
These professions have some of the highest incidences of work related deaths in the US, yet I never hear anyone call them heroes.
How many lives they save?
•Nurses
•EMT's
•Plumbers
•Electricians
• HVAC tech's
•Computer programmers
They have all played a part in increasing the quality and length of the lives of countless millions of people. It could be argued that plumbers have saved more lives that doctors just due to the abatement of infectious disease from the sanitation systems they install. Are we reminded of their heroism on the nightly "news" every time a hepatitis case is avoided?
of course not...
It's all about pushing a narrative about who you are to respect and revere.
Think for a minute...
Do you trust someone who has to constantly remind you that "you can trust me. "
If somebody tells you constantly how dangerous their job is and how you wouldn't have freedom without them, are you apt to believe it because it's true, or because of relentless repetition?
Shop with a cop is only mildly different that the Hells Angels doing toy runs at Christmas time. One is a pseudo legitimized gang and the other is an overt criminal gang.
Police now steal more through civil asset forfeiture than all other combined reported theft in the United States. (NOT INCLUDING THE TAXES COLLECTED TO FUND THEIR DEPTS.)
Government agents (primarily military) have killed a quarter of a billion people in the twentieth century alone. (NOT INCLUDING WARS)
Who are you calling a hero??
