RE: SLC-S25/W2 | Community World Tour: Festivals & Celebrations"

Wow, this was such an eye-opening read! I’ve honestly never heard about the Ika cultural festival until now, and reading this just transported me straight into the heart of Akwa Ibom.

The part that struck me most was the symbolism behind the masquerades, especially Abiaokpo representing ancestral spirits. That imagery alone gave me goosebumps. I could almost hear the drummers you described and imagine the tall, commanding presence of that masquerade weaving through the crowd.

I also love how you mentioned that this celebration brings economic value to the state and unites people; there’s something powerful about culture doing both, and those dishes you listed? Porridge, plantain, and coconut rice alone are enough to make me want to visit during the festival 😄

Thank you for sharing this from such a personal perspective. It’s beautiful that marriage opened the door for you to witness and embrace this rich culture. Truly, culture is best preserved when we share it.

“Eti ufaan afön akan idiök ayîn-eka” — what a deep proverb. One I’ll definitely remember.
