I am here to participate in Steemit Learning Challenge Season 26 Week 3 by @suboohi in this week with the theme of Savory Appetizers, their spices, their cooking, and one of the food recipe. I invite @m-fdo , @senehasa, @jyoti-thelight .

What do you understand by Savory Appetizers?

As a social creature I often attend and throw parties so if I want I can buy startes from the places specially catering in these items making hosting easy with these snacks. But to be frank I know how to make such starters but your lesson has taught me a few more tricks.

But as I said, I am a vegetarian by choice even if you want to laugh that a Punjabi could be a vegetarian however I am one on request of my most loved one so I try different such starters especially the savory appetizers that guarantee to impress and satisfy my lovely guests.

I love these recipes and when someone as expert as you taught such a simple and delicious one I wanted to go back to be a nonvegetatian way. But alas, my most loved one is still with me so I am posting this vegetarian one.

I have been reading you recipes over the weeks but did not find any that I could chip in. Your recipe is non vegetarian but as you have allowed to use our own ingredients I am taking a chance with a vegetarian Savory Appetizer, which I believe is a food recipe that is most popular among vegetarians.

I am presenting this Appetizer which is a perfect savory dish served before the main course and set the tone for the culinary experience with an increased appetite of the gathering.

As you said, I will show you one of my favorite appetizer with required ingredients and present in detail how I made it in my kitchen.

Savory Appetizer Veg Fried Balls

I will try to present my "Savory Appetizer" in my own style yet try to keep it close to how you taught it in your lesson. I hope it will give you a different experience yet the bite-size of this foods has a great flavor, texture, and aroma and it will increase your appetite and leave you craving for more.

You have shared two delicious recipes and you want us to make any one which I like with the same recipe or the recipe that I like.

 

Here I'm making BBQ style Veggie Roll Recipe which could be frozen Veggie Chips Recipe, BBQ style or deep fried but the one I am presenting is deep fried party appetizer and as crunchy as BBQ besides it saves time. The one I have chosen is a delicious stir fried recipe made from mixed rolls.

Ingredients for Vegetable Balls

For the vegetable mixture:

2 tbsp olive oil

½ onion (finely chopped)

1 carrot (chopped)

3 tbsp sweet corn

2 Strawberries

1 piece of broccoli

3 tbsp peas

½ sweet pepper (chopped)

2 potatoes (boiled and mashed)

½ tsp black pepper powder

½ tsp cumin powder

½ tsp Hot spice (garam masala)

½ tsp black pepper powder

½ tsp mixed spices (we call them chaat masala)

½ tsp chill flakes

½ tsp mixed herbs (Garam Masala)

Green coriander

½ tsp salt

 

Other ingredients:

Breadcrumbs (for coating)

¾ cup corn flour

¼ cup gram flour flour

¾ cup water

Oil (for frying I use Rice Bran Oil.)

How to make

Firstly, in a big bowl I mix ½ onion, 1 chill and onion 1 minced carrot, 3 tbsp sweet corn, 3 tbsp peas and 2 strawberry.

Then I add potatoes, ½ tsp black pepper powder, ½ tsp cumin powder, ½ tsp mixed spices, ½ tsp black pepper powder, ½ tsp hot spices, ½ tsp chili flakes, ½ tsp mixed herbs and ½ tsp salt.

Now I add 1/2 cup breadcrumbs to it and prepare a natural non-sticky dough.As I said I mixed different flours and breadcrumbs to this mix.

Finally I mix them well to make sure everything is ready to convert into balls.

To prepare the mixture of spices, in a bowl, ¾ cup corn flour, ¼ cup all-purpose flour, ¼ tsp black pepper powder and ¼ tsp salt.

I will now prepare the batter by adding a few drops of water and olive oil. Now I roll the vegetable mix into ball shapes.


I have used a heavy double bottom black steel pan to fry it slowly

I will deep fry immediately, but I could refrigerate in a zip lock bag, but as I said I will deep fry them.

 

I kept stir them occasionally, and fry them till they are golden brown and crispy. When the first batch was done I soaked excess oil using tissue paper. I could have done it all in one go but I wanted to use less oil since we never use the oil used for frying.

3-Give some other examples of Savory Appetizers that you like?

I can give you a number of savory appetizers that I know how to male and keep my guests happy. Most of them are easy that need not much skill like I know how to make mushroom starters, and I can definitely make chicken shawarma. I love these recipes because these are simple and delicious. To be frank, these are not just starters but in some case many of them are good and ideal for serving and get applause from my guests.

4-What should be the right portion of serving of appetizers?

It totally depends on what is the occasion and how is the main meal going to be. If appetizers are part of casual party which we the corporate workers often throw and attend then there is no limit but if these are social family gatherings than 4-8 pieces are enough. However, there is no such limit but depends on guests if they want to be full and skip the main course.

Everything is ready for savory veggie starter in shape of balls now. The choice is yours whether you eat them with tamarind or tomato sauce or eat them mixing both. and we enjoy veggie crunchy balls serving them with tomato sauce.
