World Cup '22 Group stages analisys
In this post I'm going to talk about the beginning of this year's world cup, team by team, starting with Group A and so on.
GROUP A
Qatar:
Everybody knew Qatar wasn't a great team, although having some players who knew how to play well. Another factor to consider is that almost every host country gets the pass to the knockout stages, but this wasn't the case with Qatar. They lost all the 3 games, a thing that has never happened to a host country. We can see that they managed to only score one goal, against Senegal a team which has passed to the next round.
Ecuador:
Then we have Ecuador, a team that in my opinion surprised a lot of people around the world. They had a consistent defence with a deadly striker as Enner Valencia, who managed to score two goals in the first match of the FWC. Although they weren't capable of getting second in the group, they did a great effort for their country, as they fought until the end of all the 3 matches getting an enormous draw against the Netherlands but losing the last game against Senegal, which could have given them the pass to the knockout stages.
Senegal:
The African team managed to get along with the Netherlands to the next round. Winning 2/3 matches gave them the opportunity of being among the best teams in the world. Although they lost against the biggest team in the group, they managed to win the most important game for them, which was against Ecuador, in which they won 2:1 with the decisive goal of the captain Kalidou Koulibaly to win on the 70th minute.
Netherlands:
Clearly, the best team in the group, although they struggled while playing, as their tactics weren't clear on the pitch. What I saw from The Netherlands is that although having great players, playing together isn't their greatest strength. The player who saved the Netherlands from the catastrophe was Cody Gakpo, who managed to score 3 goals in total. The way they play isn't the best, and I think they will get out of the FWC early as if they get against a good team, they will not have possibility to win.
