DOES COUCHSURFING WORK IN TURKEY? (CAPPADOCIA TRAVEL VIDEO)

in #world6 years ago (edited)

8 days in Cappadocia was a tiny fraction of our journey across Europe, Asia and a part of Australia. As our budget was only a few dollars per day, we tried to save money in any ways possible: we hitchhiked, we slept in a tent, we did some volunteering a various countries for food and accommodation and of course we "couchsurfed".

Finding a Couchsurfing.com host in Europe was not so easy. May be because we did not have any previous experience and references. Europeans are much more suspicious and cautious. They also like to plan everything in advance. When you are hitchhiking, you usually don't know where you are going to end up in the evening. Luckily, Couchsurfing in Asia was A LOT easier. You just ask someone if they can host you and if they say yes you are welcome to come the same minute. Finding a host in Nevsehir town wasn’t any more difficult too. Nevsehir is located in Cappadocia are in the central Turkey. This was the place where we spent one of the best days in all 11 months of continuous traveling.

When we arrived we found it difficult to find our hosts house, so we asked one taxi driver for help. He called our host, asked him for directions and then explained us where to go. He also said “Your friend has an Iranian accent”. That was a great news as we have heard that Iranians are the most hospitable people in the world.

Our hosts name was Farzad. He lived in a simple, yet cozy 3 room apartment. We had our separate room. Farzad always hosts foreign travelers. This is his way to know more about the world as he can’t travel a lot by himself. The same day we felt like he was our soul brother. Because of his invincible hospitality we spent 8 days in Cappadocia instead of just 2 or 3. Every day he kept repeating “You must stay for one more day, because tomorrow we will visit my friend Ibo…”, “You must stay for two more days, because we will have a picnic on Monday…” and so on and soon. :D

Farzad told us there are a few Couchsurfing hosts in Nevsehir, so it’s usually never a problem for travelers to find a couch to crash on. Things from those days I remember the most are delicious Iranian food and lots of Mosques. I believe more than 40 of them. And of course scenery in magnificent. You can find all the information when and why people used to live in those caves right here -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappadocia

The answer to the question "DOES COUCHSURFING WORK IN TURKEY?" is "Oooh Yes". Last time I told you a little about our experiences in Istanbul ->

However, Istanbul ad Nevsehir were not the only places in Turkey, where we found hospitable hosts. The same thing also happened in Sivas, Samsun and Trabzon.
