Working Saturday: endoscopy day

One of my favourite activities among my professional work is performing endoscopy, I perform Gastroscopy that is endoscopic procedure that is done for investigation of gullet, stomach and first part of small bowel. Usually we find the pathology and sometimes we need to do biopsies in order to confirmed final tissue confirmation of the disease. Many people who have it for the first time are anxious because even imagination that there will be a scope inserted into your throat causes very funny weird feeling.
When I finished my University and in my first year, just so that I know how it is and how patients feel when they have this procedure, I decided to let my stomach to assess with endoscopy that has been done by one of my colleague. I was also very anxious but I felt everything myself, what we feel adn now when I speak to patient I explain everything how I felt and what is hte best to do in order to overcome the anxiety.
I think it is important for patient to know that your doctor knows what is happening when the procedure is performed. The patients usually very grateful for such preparation.
Often when I have a scope on weekend then my room is number 2. I actually got used to that and glad that it is my room.
Here are other equipment that we use for hte procedure such as a suction unit and for bowel investigation there is an equipment called scope guide that usually give an idea where is the scope in the body of patient. We do not use it for upper Gastrointestinal tract but only for bowel.
My day went very well, I had good nursing staff with me and we had very good working day.
