Sketching exercises- using watercolour brushes
Hello dear Steemians,
Last few days i am working on an Oil painting. I have not touched my Oil paints for couple of years, the reason because I still can not say that I feel comfortable with Oil paints. I really love the vivid colours and result but the whole process is much more difficult. Still I decided to give Oil painting a chance and while have next couple of days off I am going to continue and who knows might finish it by the end of the week.
In meantime, while having small breaks between painting I try to use for example my watercolour brushes that I also bought a long ago to make some sketches. The block is very small so my sketches then are small too. But it is no matter, it is just a quick sketch even without my reading glasses.
For sketching I use my favourite topics: boats and architecture, I love the buildings in Muenster, our home town. It is important just to have the recognisable features so that people immediately can say yes, that it is!

Here is how I started my sketches, I had a sketchbook and because of having white of paper just did some drawing, of course, it became a boat. The watercolour brushes are plastic pen shape and have liquid or diluted colour and you can just use it like a pen. They are very concentrated that is why the colours are very strong. There is also a pen that you can fill with water that way you can smoothen the edges of sketches.
You need to be quick and as you can see on the first one I thought about sun and clouds but after applying the colours I was unable to dilute it so just stopped it, please do not pay attention or consider as an abstract painting :)

Here is another attempt of sketching of Muenster, our home town. I am trying to study the buildings and also to see what other objects I can add to my painting. Definitely some lamp posts, cyclists, people walking there and also was thinking about the lights. Maybe it will be an evening scene.
*I like this one, but I also have to do work on windows and also the shape of the top of buildings so that they are different.

Hi Jeff, thank you for viewing and your nice comments, yes, watercolour has its own feature that allows such loose painting, with acrylic and oil one should be more careful, this is something I am doing at present, trying to finish my Oil painting, hope next couple of days :)
The only water colors I use is latex - LOL. Good work

Well I think many people have problems with oil paints but if you keep on practicing it will not be that much difficult for you. Oil paints only need constant practice and good flow in hand.

Thank you, yes, in regards to Oil painting I heard that one should just try and get used to they have completely different feature and also if mistakes happen you can just re-paint over the dried paint. I will try to finish my started work and definitely present here :)

Your skills are amazing! It looks so simple to draw something like this, but personally me knowing my skills i know a blind man can draw something better. 😅
I love drawing and painting this is something that I am trying to get better and better. The only thing is time, there is never enough time for that. But I will be having a holiday in couple of week, hope to spend more time for painting :)
