Increase your creative time & the output of your work

Lately I've been suffering from something I call "creative fever". Is a state where all I want is to spend all my time being creative, working on all kind of projects, learning new skills and creating things that I can share with people. In this situation I would love to be a robot and spend all my time working, without getting tired, or bored.

Sadly, that's not possible and because I'm a human I need to take breaks and to give myself time to relax, to eat, to sleep and many other activities that don't help me make any progress. The only thing I discovered I can do to increase my creative time and to invest more into my work is to change the way I do things and how much I work every day on certain areas.

The main reason is that, while I hate to say this, quantity is as important as quality in today's world. You can see that all around the Internet, especially on YouTube, where people who spend weeks working on one video get significantly less views and subscribers than those who post mediocre videos every single day and who bring absolutely no value to the consumer.

It's something common that is happening all around the world. Yes, quality is important and you need to make sure you create something really good, but quantity is vital especially when people want to see more of what you do. If you don't provide, they will forget about you and focus on those who are actually capable of delivering more often.

Because of that most of us make an extra effort to publish more than we want to, sacrificing quality just to make sure we release something out there, in the online world. We could spend a week working on an amazing article and then post it on a website where people may be excited about it, but we decide not to do that and publish daily in order to get more exposure.

Here's the downside of this - while posting daily can help some people get a lot of exposure, not investing more time into your projects may result in low quality content which will lead to less people being interested in what you create. The solution? Realize that the amount of content you need to provide isn't as big as you actually think.

A few days ago I was on Medium reading an article written by someone explaining what he did to get money while publishing on that website, and at some point in the article he mentioned that you should make an effort to post at least a week if you want to get where he is. I was a little surprised because I always thought one should post daily in order to get noticed and to become important.

The thing is that we usually overestimate the amount of times we need to post something in order to get exposure and attention. Yes, posting daily is amazing, but if you can't create something valuable that people can use or enjoy, then it's for nothing. However, if you give yourself more creative time and you post only once a week, you can easily invest more into your work and create something high quality that will impress people.

What I missed was the fact that most content consumers aren't going to leave if you don't give them something daily, as long as you can post great content regularly, like once a week. As long as you can be consistent and as long as you can create nice things, people will be there to consume what you create and to give you the rewards you deserve.

That's why I will start giving myself more time to create certain things, and instead of publishing daily, I will publish once a week. I'm not talking about Steemit, because writing for me comes easy and I can easily write articles while also focus on other projects involving writing and design. I'm talking about creating design packages or elements for Graphic River and Creative Market, fantasy stories, programming and things I may want to learn in the future.

I was so obsessed with making a lot of progress in as little time as possible that I forgot a really important aspect - good work needs time and focus, and if I'm not willing to invest both into what I do, then I'm not gonna get anything great from my work. That's why I decided to take it easy and invest as much time as I need into creating things and learning new skills.

And I strongly recommend you do the same. I know that these days it's really important to create as much content as you can, because people want more in less time. However, it's also really important to create something good and in order to do that you need to give yourself more creative time and to invest more into your projects.

Everyone wants to get where they want to be faster, but in order to do that we need to learn how to work better, not just to focus on delivering and forget about the consumer. Give yourself more time to create and focus on doing amazing things.
