Work does not define your "value"

in #work6 years ago

Work used to be (and still is) the unwanted necessity most people have to deal with to be able to survive and realise their dreams. Thats it. Work does not define who we are, it does not fulfill our lives and it is not our moral duty to work.

Most work is also not "intellectually challenging". This is something that maybe applies for 5% of the work, but not more than that. And beyond that is also does not matter one bit. What matters is how much you produce, measured in how much you earn.

Historically the most privileged state has been the one where one did not need to work. In ancient Greece men did not work. That was the duty of women and slaves. Men should enjoy life and think about philosophy. Nowadays we are heading into an age of abundance, where we can have a much higher life standard than the greeks, but for everyone. Robots will soon be able to do most jobs.

However the vision that 90% of the people do not have to work means that the current hierarchies cannot be maintained. Without work to eat away our time people would quickly realised they are being scammed. Instead of going into the age of abundance, the wealth generated from new technologies is kept from most people and concentrated in few hands.

At the same time romantic lies are spread praising work as the ultimate goal of life. I even heard some people wanting artificial job programs just to keep people busy. Because having work is so important for the own ego and it improves the character. What a terrible world where people do not have to work anymore... and maybe start to think about philosophy or start charities or just enjoy life.

I love work. Because it generates money. Thats it. I dont have to work for the state, for the poor, for society and at the very last I also dont have to work for my own satisfaction. Dont buy this bullshit.

Sort:

I have calculated that about 3% of the population grows the food, and about 10% does all the manufacturing.

Almost all of the rest is filling out paperwork to send to the govern-cement, and g-ment employees filing that paperwork.

So, literally, we should all have about an 8 hour work week, if we spread everything out.

And you can get close to that with mostly automated (sprinklers) gardens and chicken tractors.

absolutely. In the past farming made up the majority of the work, followed by production of everyday goods. Work was necessary. If people stop they will starve. Nowadays most work is optional, if it can even be called work anymore. Its a huge program to keep us busy.

50 years ago the work of one parent in an ordinary job was enough to afford a decent life. New in a world that has so much more technology both parents have to hustle to make it through the month. Government is sucking the blood out of us and it to spy on every action we do, run a global overextended empire and pay for wars around the globe.
