Hate the 9-5? A better outlook to life...
Have we lost the meaning of life? Have we ever known what it is? In a world where a minute of inner reflection is so rare, we instead depend on society and the powers that be to dictate to us the purpose of life. Their version is mainly consumerism which is fueled by modern day slavery in which we get up everyday and mindlessly do what our "superiors" tell us to do. All this just for a little bit of money that we then turn around and spend before you can say, "wake up!" If this is all there is to life then what a waste! Even if we assume that their deeper version of life consists of being happy by means of attaining lots and lots of material possessions, we know this is not the answer for we have seen millionaires who have everything they ever wanted and they are some of the most unhappy people around. They are out of touch with what really matters in life, and have no clue what direction to head to after accomplishing the so called "American dream".
The constant bombardment of propaganda telling us what we should want and who we should be has, for the most part, affected the population and turned them into consumers that live for money and material possessions. The majority of our time is wasted punching in and punching out of a company that uses us for its own gain and discards us when it sees fit. Sure we get a couple days per week to ourselves but think about all the life wasted as we stare at the clock every weekday waiting for 5 p.m. Meaningful moments, human interactions, and profound experiences are all missed out and instead our minds are filled with stress and worry about things that in the long run don't really matter.
I suggest a new approach. One in which we reduce our obsession with material things. This in turn will allow us to not have to work so hard to be happy. 12 hour days, little sleep, and bad health will no longer be a part of our lives. We only work to sustain our material possessions and to acquire more of them. The less you have the less burdened you feel. Eventually we can create a new society in which sharing is the new economy and abundance is the new norm. The shift to this new life model will take time, but thousands of years of this template that is based on selfishness has proven over and over again to be a complete failure. Is this the only method of which we can conceive? Or are we being redirected into this doomed way of life?
Whatever it may be I say let's try something different...
